GIMP: Chapter 1: Getting to Know GIMP


What does GIMP stand for? 
GNU Image Manipulation Program

What is GIMP and when was it developed? 
A computer program for creating and editing digital images that was developed in 1885.

What is a dock in GIMP? 
Each separate dialog window inside of GIMP that groups things together.

What is a tear-off menu in GIMP? 
A menu that can be torn off into a window of its own.

Is GIMP available for systems other than Windows? If so, what systems? (See Appendix A for more information about this): 
Yes. GIMP also runs on Mac OS X, Linux, and other UNIX-based systems.

Why might you use the NEW VIEW feature of GIMP? 
It allows you to view one image in more than one window at different sizes.

Who is WILBER and who created him? 
GIMP's mascot, drawn by GIMP contributor Tuomas Kuosmanen.

What version of GIMP is installed on the computer you are using (either in the classroom or at home)? 
Gimp 2.8.4
